If you decide to keep chickens permanently: Start a Chicken Notebook and log your egg output and general health notes with dates on each entry.

This helps you spot things before they become complications, helps you know what to expect year to year (seasonally) etc.

Folks think, "I will remember" -- but not really. Having a chicken book on your own flock is really useful.
